BreadBudget stock tracking page

Brief

What is the Stocks feature?

The Stocks feature helps you keep track of stock holdings inside BreadBudget. You can record stock purchases and sales, review how many shares you own, and see an estimated current value based on available stock pricing data.

This feature is meant to help you stay organized. It is not designed to replace a brokerage account, professional investment software, or personal financial advice.

Why track stocks in BreadBudget?

Your investments are part of your overall financial picture. Tracking stocks alongside your budget, income, expenses, goals, and reports can help you better understand where your money is going and what you own.

For example, you may want to know:

  • Which stocks have I purchased?
  • How many shares do I currently own?
  • How much have I spent buying shares?
  • How much have I received from selling shares?
  • What is the estimated current value of my holdings?
  • How do my investments fit into my bigger financial picture?

Adding stock activity

To use the Stocks feature, start by adding the stock you want to track. After that, you can add activity such as purchases and sales.

A purchase usually records that you bought a certain number of shares at a specific price. A sale records that you sold shares and received money back. BreadBudget can then use that activity to estimate how many shares you currently hold and what the position may be worth.

Understanding stock summaries

Stock summaries are designed to give you a quick snapshot of your stock activity. Depending on the information you have entered, you may see details such as:

  • Amount: The number of shares you currently own.
  • Current Price: The latest available price BreadBudget has for that stock.
  • Total Owned: The estimated current value of your shares.
  • Buy/Sell Revenue: The money recorded from your purchase and sale activity.
  • Total Revenue: A simple summary combining recorded activity and estimated current value.

These numbers are helpful for tracking and organization, but they should be treated as estimates. Stock prices can change quickly, and pricing data may not always update instantly.

Stock charts

BreadBudget can also show stock information in dashboard charts. These charts can help you see how stock values have changed over time and make it easier to review trends at a glance.

If you use the customizable Dashboard, you can add stock cards so investment information appears when you log in. This can be useful if stocks are part of your regular financial tracking.

Tips for using Stocks

  • Enter purchases and sales as accurately as possible.
  • Check that the stock symbol or name is correct before saving.
  • Review your holdings periodically to make sure they still match your records.
  • Use stock tracking as part of your overall budget picture, not as your only investment record.
  • Remember that current values are estimates and can change throughout the market day.

Important reminder

BreadBudget does not provide investment advice. The Stocks feature is for tracking, reporting, and organization only. Buying, selling, or holding investments involves risk, and you should make investment decisions based on your own research or guidance from a qualified financial professional.

The goal of this feature is simple: help you keep your stock activity organized alongside the rest of your financial information.
