Crypto
Learn how to use BreadBudget’s crypto tracking tools to record purchases, sales, estimated value, and basic cryptocurrency activity.
Brief
What is the Crypto feature?
The Crypto feature helps you keep track of cryptocurrency holdings inside BreadBudget. You can record purchases and sales, review how much crypto you own, and see an estimated current value based on available pricing data.
This feature is meant to help you stay organized. It is not a crypto wallet, exchange, brokerage account, tax tool, or investment advice service.
Why track crypto in BreadBudget?
Crypto can be difficult to keep organized, especially if you buy, sell, or hold more than one coin. Tracking crypto inside BreadBudget lets you keep that information near the rest of your financial picture, including your budget, income, expenses, goals, and reports.
For example, you may want to know:
- Which cryptocurrencies have I purchased?
- How much of each coin do I currently own?
- How much have I spent buying crypto?
- How much have I received from selling crypto?
- What is the estimated current value of my holdings?
- How does crypto fit into my overall financial picture?
Adding crypto activity
To use the Crypto feature, start by adding the cryptocurrency you want to track. After that, you can add activity such as purchases and sales.
A purchase usually records that you bought a certain amount of crypto at a specific price. A sale records that you sold some of your holdings and received money back. BreadBudget can then use that activity to estimate how much you currently hold and what it may be worth.
Understanding crypto summaries
Crypto summaries are designed to give you a quick snapshot of your cryptocurrency activity. Depending on the information you have entered, you may see details such as:
- Amount: The amount of cryptocurrency you currently own.
- Current Price: The latest available price BreadBudget has for that cryptocurrency.
- Total Owned: The estimated current value of your holdings.
- Buy/Sell Revenue: The money recorded from your purchase and sale activity.
- Total Revenue: A simple summary combining recorded activity and estimated current value.
These numbers are useful for tracking and organization, but they should be treated as estimates. Crypto prices can change quickly, and pricing data may not always update instantly.
Crypto charts
BreadBudget can also show crypto information in dashboard charts. These charts can help you review estimated crypto values over time and make it easier to see general trends.
If you use the customizable Dashboard, you can add crypto cards so this information appears when you log in. This can be useful if crypto is part of your regular financial tracking.
Tips for using Crypto
- Enter purchases and sales as accurately as possible.
- Make sure you select the correct cryptocurrency before saving activity.
- Review your holdings periodically to make sure they still match your records.
- Use crypto tracking as part of your overall financial picture, not as your only investment record.
- Remember that estimated values can change quickly because crypto prices are often volatile.
Important reminder
BreadBudget does not provide investment, tax, or legal advice. The Crypto feature is for tracking, reporting, and organization only. Buying, selling, or holding cryptocurrency involves risk, and prices may change dramatically over short periods of time.
If you need help making investment, tax, or legal decisions related to cryptocurrency, consider speaking with a qualified professional.
The goal of this feature is simple: help you keep your crypto activity organized alongside the rest of your financial information.
